customer I’d never be allowed to enter. I remember filling in for another DJ because he had a private party to work. When I saw him later he insisted I look into doing private events- which was actually quite unique at the time because bands really cornered the market.”   Intrigue eventually won him over, and after coming up empty in his search for the right DJ company to work for, Byron decided to start his own.

In June 1988, Tone Zone was born.  Byron goes on to say, “Obviously back then nobody knew who I was so getting work was slow, but I took advantage of that by going to broadcasting school and becoming a radio personality. “Between my work in radio and Tone Zone, I finally became a full time DJ in 1991 and worked weddings every weekend.  I also consumed myself with music of all kinds – I studied the music charts; music I liked and disliked.”
When not working events, Byron would attend them in his search for DJs who shared his philosophies and passion. “The mid-90s were booming!  Success forced me to find store-front offices. I had to hire an Office Manager and a Director of Operations.  I attended nationwide conventions to really learn all aspects of the weddings and events industry- even duties that DJs aren’t responsible for.” Byron eventually went from attending industry seminars to being asked to give them.  From Atlantic City to Las Vegas, Byron lectured on music programming, event structuring, and tastefully entertaining, and has been a contributor to trade magazines.

Sharing knowledge with his employees, by the late 90s Byron grew Tone Zone into Connecticut’s third largest professional DJ company.  Hired by major corporations and public figures to blue collar workers alike, Tone Zone
was a DJ company in high demand.  Byron continues, “I got to a point where our DJs were so popular we became a victim of our own success… a great problem to have – but still a problem!  I went from being a disc-jockey to a desk-jockey, which wasn’t any fun.  Administrative work is not why I got into this industry.” Nevertheless, Byron carried on with growing Tone Zone’s elite line of services by offering professional photography and videography.

Having performed over eleven hundred weddings and countless popularity awards he’s won, Byron maintains the fun-loving personality that has always allowed him to fit in with people regardless of the room he’s in.  Byron concludes, “I’ve always believed that I am as much in the ‘people business’ as I am in the ‘DJ business’, therefore having a smile on my face and being
One of the east coast’s most respected names in professional DJs (he is hired from Maine to Florida). Gary Byron grew up in Newington, CT always knowing he would one day be a DJ.  Byron laughs, “It’s funny, it seems like every time I talk with a DJ they always tell me how they became a DJ by accident. I knew since I was a kid I’d one day be a professional DJ. Ha! My goodness, I knew song lyrics before I knew the names of family members!”

Byron began his DJ’ing career in 1988 as a club DJ and says, “It was kind of strange because I was 18 years old spinning records in clubs where as a
